Human Resources in Education Leadership Program (HELP) 

The Human Resources in Education Leadership Program (HELP) is a three-year program designed to meet the professional development needs of individuals engaged in Human Resource Management in public education.  The program includes a one-week summer session, a one-day session in the fall, and a one-day session in the spring. Please click here  to view a brochure highlighting this program.

Human Resources Legal Boot Camp - CLASSIFIED

WSPA and HELP are pleased to announce a new program designed to meet the needs of our members. We are excited to announce our HR Legal Boot Camp – CLASSIFIED workshop.

This workshop provides training and support specific to the needs of classified staff moving into management and supervisory positions. Topics include understanding of human resources soft skills, hiring responsibilities, and understanding of professional training, discipline and evaluation, bargaining agreements, and employee rights. Please see the attached schedule for details.

Human Resources Legal Boot Camp - CERTIFICATED

This is a three-day program offering training the ABC’s of Human Resources and Personnel Operations Guide (POG) review, HR 101 – overview of school HR administration leadership responsibilities, legal writing, and employee misconduct investigative writing

About HELP

The Human Resources in Education Leadership Program (HELP), is a three-year program designed to meet a growing need for training of individuals engaged in Human Resource Management (HRM) in public education. 

In each of the three years, a total of 56 hours of direct instruction and a minimum number of 96 hours of report/activity writing are required.  Coursework for each level will be completed by spring of the following term.  The term runs from July 1st to June 30th. 

After successful completion of all three years, participants will be awarded a certification in the Human Resources in Education Leadership Program awarded through WSPA.  

NEW!  City University Credits 

Upon successful completion of three HELP years, participants will earn a total of 24 CEU's (8 CEU's for each HELP year).  All HELP credits are pass/fail. 

Please note:  The CEU's earned through the HELP program and City University may be applied toward a degree program.  More information will be available this summer.

The Program 

HELP I: This course is designed to provide introductory HR skills to support a committed, knowledgeable, and customer-oriented staff. Participants are exposed to a history of human resources, basic HR legal aspects, leadership roles, collaborative teaming, records, basic writing skills, school finance, and the recruitment, selection, and induction of district personnel. 

HELP II: This course design complements the introductory skills developed in year one to further support a committed, knowledgeable and customer-oriented staff. Participants at this level will be exposed to addressing issues related to conflict in the workplace, due process, misconduct and investigation, grievance and arbitration, HR legal writing skills, benefits, quantitative analysis, technology, and ethical leadership.  

HELP III: The final course of the three-year HELP program is designed to complement the introductory HR skills developed in the prior two years of HELP. Participants are exposed to additional development of leadership skills, supervision and evaluation of both classified and certificated staff, labor relations and negotiations, accountability, group facilitation skills, investigative HR writing, and oral communications and presentation skills.
