Introduction to Leading with Racial Equity: Pre-Conference

Marie Antoinette Room

When leading with Racial Equity, we are often asked why we focus on racial equity as a starting point of our conversations about systemic injustice. In this workshop, we will explore the why to lead with racial equity, share analysis about how racial injustice is the foundation upon which our educational systems were built, calibrate how understanding this historic and present reality will help us in our goal to eliminate all forms of inequity and how to put it to action.

Learning objectives:

  • Define your personal “why” in building capacity for racial equity work.
  • Understanding the why for leading with racial equity.
  • Build common language and definition around leading for racial equity.
  • Identify ways in which race plays a foundational role in perpetuating inequity across lines of class, ability, and other forms of identity.
  • Define the myths and realities of racial equity work in the context of transforming educational systems.
  • Provide tangible ways to put it into action.
