SUPPORT, ADVOCACY, AND PROFESSIONAL LEARNING FOR THE K-12 HUMAN RESOURCE PROFESSIONAL

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MESSAGE

Good afternoon,

Please join me in welcoming Traci Cox, Human Resource Coordinator for West Valley School District (Yakima), as your WSPA Secretary for the 2022-2024 school years.  Traci will add a lot to the board as WSPA continues to grow in the upcoming years.

Finally, to round out the board, we are in need of people to step up, and into, the regional representative roles that are open.  Being a region rep is a two-year commitment and it is strongly encouraged that  you attend the Board Annual Retreat in Leavenworth on July 15-17, 2022.  During the year, you are asked to attend board meetings (one at the Law Conference, one at Annual Conference, and others as necessary via Zoom) and to help facilitate regular region meetings with your other region rep.  Below are the region representatives who are needing a partner; outgoing representatives are in parentheses.

Region 1- Sabre Dahl, (Keri Hutchins)

Region 2- Sandra Villarreal, (Doug Christensen)

Region 3- Melissa Kreuder, (Jenae Gomes)

Region 4: Hosting the 2023 WSPA Annual Conference- Jennifer Koskovich, (Analia Galloway)

Region 5- Vivian Jensen, (Erika Paton)

Region 6- Both positions are open, (Connie Sheridan, Dan Dizon)

If you are interested in becoming a Region Representative, please email your region reps right away.  Your region reps will also send out an email soliciting interest in being a region rep.  Should there be more than one interested person, the regional reps will send out a vote for the region to complete.

WSPA wants to spend part of our spring and summer with YOU!  Be sure to check out the REGISTER TODAY section below for information on registering for the following Professional Development opportunities.

As always, thank you for everything you do.  You are appreciated!  I hope you have an enjoyable weekend with family and/or friends.

Unemployment Insurance: Sign up now for upcoming SOC code webinars

Learn more about Standard Occupational Classification codes on May 20 or June 3

Do you have questions about Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) codes? Sign up for one of our upcoming webinars!

All employers will be required to report SOC codes when they submit their quarterly tax reports starting with their fourth quarter 2022 report. At that time, you could get a penalty for incorrect SOC reporting. Reporting SOC codes is currently optional and is available only to single filers.

Upcoming webinars

If you have questions or want to learn more about using SOC codes, register for one of our free webinars.

  • Friday, May 20, at 11 to 11:45 a.m. - Register
  • Friday, June 3, at 11 to 11:45 a.m. - Register

During these webinars, we’ll talk about:

  • What are SOC codes?
  • When are SOC codes mandatory?
  • How to look up SOC codes.
  • How to add SOC codes with keyed or imported wage data.

Note: We will provide the same information in both webinars. However, questions could vary in each webinar, so you are welcome to sign up for both.

What is SOC?

SOC is a federal coding system that helps government agencies and private businesses compare occupational data.

In 2019, the Washington State Legislature passed a law requiring employers to report SOC codes in their quarterly reports for unemployment insurance.
